Recently, there have been many violent altercations in Five Points occurring late at night. The most recent which included a group of young men resulted in a curfew for minors in the area. Random gun shots have been heard many times.
But what if the altercation is between grown men? Most recently, there was a fight in a bar parking lot between two grown men. The victim, who is currently critically injured, is 41 and the suspect is 27 years old. He was taken to jail on assault and battery charges.
The problem is that Five Points is a prime location for bad things to happen, especially violence. People drink too much and then fight. The current surveillance system does not work as a precautionary measure but as a way to gain information post-incident. Even with cops on every block, it still does not serve as a deterrent for people to fight.
Five Points is turning into a violent, sketchy, crime-ridden area. If things don't improve, it will quickly get worse and become an even more undesirable place to be. We don't want people to be scared in a part of town, especially one that is so close to our campus.
